S Mycroft critique - Champ Show 15/11/15 (dogs)

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge their show and to the exhibitors for their entries and  sporting acceptance of my placings.  The overall quality, particularly in the Limit and Open Classes made for some very hard decisions which in some instances were so close that they may well be reversed on another day.

Myself and my co-judge – Karen Barlow  found our best dog and best bitch difficult to split for BIS so we decided in this instance to let the Referee Mr Bob Moore make the decision for us and so BIS was awarded to the DCC winner Ch Jojavik Elite Mafia.  I had no hesitation in agreeing with Karen for her BCC winner Taevas Sweetest Perfection to take the RBIS award.  We also agreed that the bitch puppy – Ashlain Trypiti – should be BPIS whilst her brother – Ashlain Sotiros was RBPIS. BVIS was the lovely Ch Janzins Jamelia JW ShCM

Minor Puppy Dog (5, 2abs)

1   Lainchbury’s ASHLAIN SOTIROS – 6 month old black/rust baby of excellent quality.  A masculine youngster with lovely bone and substance.  Long head with parallel planes, correct stop and deep muzzle with correct underjaw.  Dark, almond shaped eye with good fill.  Front is well angulated with ample depth and forechest.  Well laid shoulders lead into what is a strong topline for a baby although he still needs to fill in at the croup. Well angulated rear quarters with good bend of stifle.  A steady sound mover once settled this happy young man went on to take BPD and RBPIS only beaten by his sister for the top award.  A couple of smashing pups who I
am sure will go on to great things.
2   Rodgers’ ARITAUR JAMAICA ME CRAZY AT NOLATARI – Another cracking youngster at his first show. Compact brown/rust well boned youngster, good head with correct stop,  deep muzzle and  correct underjaw.  Long neck into well placed shoulders and deep, well developed forechest.  Good backline for a puppy and tail set on correctly.  Plenty of rear angulation which he uses to advantage on the move.  Movement is a little erratic at the moment but this is a very promising youngster who I am sure will have a bright future.
3   Hopkinson’s OTAGO GOTTA BE ME

Puppy Dog (5, 0abs)

1   Layton’s OTTIA UPTOWN FUNK AT KAISTART – Nearly 10 months old this masculine yet elegant black/rust dog is developing well.  Long head with parallel planes and correct stop. Dark, almond shaped eye with good fill.   Fairly deep muzzle with enough underjaw.  Well angulated front with good depth, would like a little more forechest but I’m sure this will come with age.  Well place shoulders into a short, firm topline and correct tailset.  Well muscled rear quarters with strong, straight hocks.  Balanced mover once he settles into his stride.
2   Tyler’s JOJAVIK BULLETPROOF BOMB – Very nearly 12 months old this strong, masculine well muscled male has a lot to like.  Head has correct stop with parallel planes and dark eyes but is slightly broad in skull.  Would prefer more length to the muzzle but it is deep with plenty of underjaw.  Good lay of shoulder into sloping topline and correct tailset.  Well sprung ribs with plenty of depth and ample forechest.  Well angulated rear quarters.  Moves well in profile but a little loose coming towards.

Junior Dog (2, 0abs)

1   Tyler’s JOJAVIK BULLETPROOF BOMB
2   Rodgers’ ARITAUR JAMAICA ME CRAZY AT NOLATARI

Yearling Dog (3, 1abs)

1   Gregson’s AMAZON BLACKPARK LOUIS VUITTON – Nearly 2 years old this compact standard sized black/rust male would benefit from losing a few pounds!  Head has dark almond shaped eyes and parallel planes with correct stop.  A little broad in skull and would prefer more underjaw and length to muzzle.  Correct lay of shoulder into strong backline and correct tailset.  Ample depth of brisket and forechest.  Well angulated at the rear but would prefer more strength at the hock.  Moves OK but is inclined to crab on occasions.
2   Wetherall’s KODAM PROPA GANDER JW – 18 month old compact, muscular and strong boned black/rust male but would prefer more height.  Good head with correct stop, dark almond shaped eyes and enough underjaw but would prefer more length to muzzle.  Well placed shoulders into firm backline. Plenty of depth and forechest but somewhat short in upper arm.
Balanced mover.

Novice Dog (1, 0abs)

1   Tyler’s JOJAVIK BULLETPROOF BOMB

Graduate Dog (1, 0abs)

1   Dzuba’s KORIFEY JET – Nearly 2 years old and this black/rust dog is maturing very nicely.  A masculine yet elegant dog with strong, round bone and compact feet.  Enough length to head with parallel planes and correct stop.  Dark almond shaped eyes and deep muzzle with enough underjaw although would prefer a little more length.  Front angles are correct with good lay of shoulder into a strong backline and correct tailset.  Well developed forechest and good depth to brisket.  Well muscled rear quarters with correct turn of stifle and strong straight hocks.  An easy, balanced mover, correct from all angles would just like a little more attitude.

Post Graduate Dog (4, 1abs)

1   Wright’s ALKAHEST VIVALDO AT KAMROYAL (IMP RUS) – Compact 3 year old black/rust
standard sized male with strong, round bone.  Masculine head with dark, almond shaped eye, parallel planes and correct stop.  Muzzle is deep with strong underjaw but would prefer more length.  Ears small and high set. Front angulation is set slightly too far forward however the topline is firm with the desired slope and well filled croup.  Forechest is well developed and ribs well sprung.  Well muscled hind quarters with enough bend of stifle although his young handler is inclined to understack him which can make him appear unbalanced.  A sound mover in profile but inclined to short step at the front on occasions.
2   Capell’s RUZUNA AMAZING VALOUR – 2 ½ year old black/rust male of standard size.  Well muscled square dog.  Head has parallel planes and correct stop, would prefer more length and strength to muzzle.  Eyes of medium colour and slightly round.  Slightly steep at the shoulder but leads into a strong, slightly sloping topline although I would prefer a better croup.  Good depth to brisket and well sprung ribs.  Well developed forechest and straight true front.  Well angulated rear quarters which he used well on the move.  Sound steady mover.
3   Cottingham’s CHANCEPIXIES ADONIS

Limit Dog (10, 1abs)

1   Goodwin’s SATINEA ALONZO JW – A well muscled 2 ½ year old brown/rust male of correct size and in excellent condition.  He has excellent bone and substance and stands on compact feet.  His head is long enough with parallel planes, enough stop and dark brown almond shaped eyes, good depth to muzzle and excellent underjaw with correct fill under the eye. His well placed shoulders lead into a short, strong, slightly sloping topline with excellent tailset.
Plenty of depth of brisket with a well developed forechest and well sprung ribs.  Hind quarters are well angulated with good bend of stifle.  Excellent movement which was balanced with good reach and drive.   It was very close in my final decisions,  just preferred the overall finish of the two main winners.
2   Moore & Jones’ KORIFEY ONYX JW – 23 month old standard sized black/rust male whose clean outline draws your attention immediately.  Shown to advantage he freestands foursquare, is elegant yet muscular and stands on compact feet.  Long head with parallel planes, dark eyes of correct shape and enough stop. Muzzle is of right length with enough underjaw.  Excellent shoulders into a short, strong topline,  well filled croup and correct tailset.  Well sprung at the rib with good depth and ample forechest. Front legs placed well under the body and elbows close to brisket. Rear quarters are equally well made and again stand  totally true to the floor. His movement is sound from all angles but today unfortunately he was somewhat sluggish and this cost him the class.
3   Brough’s REMESCA ROSINNI JW ShCM

Open Dog (11, 1abs)

1   Fisher’s CH JOJAVIK ELITE MAFIA – Strongly made,  compact black/rust male of standard size.  Full of character and makes his handler work really hard but very hard to find any fault.
Super head of good length with parallel planes and correct stop.  Dark, almond shaped eyes and good fill. Correct length to muzzle with good depth and strong underjaw.  Long neck into well placed shoulders and short, firm topline with correct slope.  Well filled at the  croup and excellent tailset.  Ribs well sprung and good depth to brisket with well developed forechest.  Well angulated rear quarters with strong second thigh and straight hocks.  A very balanced mover viewed from all angles with good profile action and excellent forward reach.  I have made no secret of the fact that I like this dog and I wasn’t disappointed today.  It was a pleasure to judge him and award him not only the class but also the DCC, he went on to BIS.
2   Sanderson’s CH ARITAUR CARDINAL RED AT JODASEEN ShCM – Another real favourite of mine unlucky to come up against the CC winner.  Elegant yet muscular brown/rust male with super bone.  Long head with parallel planes and correct stop. Dark brown eyes of correct shape with good fill.  Correct length to muzzle but would prefer a little more underjaw.  Super sound front with legs placed well under body and elbows close to his deep brisket.  Ample forechest and well sprung ribs.  Well placed shoulders and strong, slightly sloping topline into well filled croup and correct tailset.  Very well angulated rear quarters.  Movement is very good
coming and going however today  he was not so positive as the CC winner in profile.  However, he improved in the challenge for the RCC which I was happy to award him.
3   Richardson’s CH JASPRICO JAZZ MASTER FLASH JW ShCM

Veteran Dog (2, 0abs)

1   Pollard’s CH AMAZON ELDORADO AT WHIZZBEAN JW ShCM – 7 ½ year old compact black/rust male who can still give some of the youngsters a run for their money.  Standard sized compact boy with lovely bone and substance.  Strong head with parallel planes and correct stop.  Darkest of eyes of correct shape.  Deep muzzle of correct length with enough underjaw.  Well placed shoulders into firm topline and good tailset.  Deep body and well sprung ribs and ample forechest.  Well angulated rear quarters set on strong hocks.  Moves steadily and soundly with good reach and drive.   Considered him for top honours and he was in my final four for the CC.
2   Scott’s KHAZADDUM SHADOW CREEPER AT ZAFFARELLA – Nearly 10 years young this black/rust boy is still strutting his stuff.  Elegant male of correct size.  Long head with correct stop, deep muzzle and enough underjaw.  Dark, almond shaped eyes with good fill.  Well placed shoulders, firm topline and well filled croup.  A little steep in upper arm but rear quarters strong and well angulated.  Good depth to brisket and enough forechest.  Moved very well
for his age.
