Victoria Ingram critique - Champ Show 14/11/21 (bitches)

Thank you to the Midland Dobermann Club for inviting me to judge Bitches at their show. Whilst Dobermann entries sadly seem to be declining throughout most shows, I was pleased to get the number I did for bitches only. I had some real lovely ones to go over, thank you to all the exhibitors for their entries. Dentition was good on the whole as were temperaments on all the bitches. I was pleased with my overall winners, my CC winner coming from Minor Puppy who ultimately, on a judge’s decision ended up BIS & BPIS, age is just a number if a dog is correct, I always judge what I see on the day & she was the one I wanted to take home. Thank you to all the exhibitors for their entries.

Minor Puppy Bitch- This was a great class to start off my day.

1st- Luther’s SUPETA’S ECHOES OF LOVE FOR LANGLORE

8-month-old Brown/Rust. She screamed ‘I’m the Best here today’ and in my opinion she was! I Loved her that much in her class that it was a case of seeing if I could find another bitch in the other classes who I thought was good enough to beat her.. but in the challenge, there was no looking past her, she stood out, every time I glanced around the ring, she lured me to her & her handler effortlessly brought every inch of the best out in her.

This bitch stands four square on platform shoe, catlike feet with strong pasterns (bad ones are my pet hate) She is so clean & balanced on the eye, just what I like. She has good bone & substance & is very mature for her age but not overdone in anyway. Wedged, strong head with good length & depth to muzzle, narrow back skull & dark expressive eye. Neat set ears. Good angulation front & rear & her clean curved neck flows into her immaculate top line which she holds standing & on the move. Elbows well tucked. She moves soundly & very true. Although just a baby her quality cannot be denied & I know I didn’t stick my neck on the line awarding her the CC from Minor Puppy because I have no doubt that many more will follow. CC, BIS & BPIS

Thank you for bringing her, Huge congratulations to her breeder & owner.

2nd- Plummer’s ARITAUR JUNO LUCINA

Just 6-month-old Brown/Rust who was very well handled to bring out a pleasing shape & outline & place second in this lovely class. A real baby compared to 1 & not the flow or as well made but she stands true when viewed from the front & the rear, clean in shape. She has a good head of decent length & a good eye with a feminine expression. Tight feet, decent length of neck which is clean. Elbows well tucked. Moved well coming & going but didn’t t have the movement on side profile of 1.

3rd- Wookey’s UNA VAN DE DONAUHOEVE

I must mention this Black/Rust bitch because   really liked her for style & quality however I could not award her any higher on the day because her handler wasn’t getting the best from her but I see enough good parts of her to still place her 3rd in the class.

Puppy Bitch-

1st-Mclaren’s TEUSHONS TEMPTRESS

11 Months Brown/Rust. My notes say ‘Square in outline & solid’ her angulation is good front & rear, her top line is strong, but croup could be better & she would probably benefit from a better tuck up on her underline. She has good tight catlike feet & good pasterns. She has a strong head & dark eye for a brown. Moved & handled well.

Junior Bitch-

1st Hutchinson's & Mycroft's SUPETA’S DIAMONDS R FOREVER WITH DEBISON

13 Month Black/Rust who is solid & in super condition, though her angulation could be better she is still lovely to go over & has some good qualities. I love her bone & substance which is what our breed is really starting to lack. She is no Whippet & could do what she was bred for. She is short & square in outline with a long clean neck, it could flow better into her shoulder but handler does her best to get this right. She holds herself well on the move covering the ring on side profile. She has a very good head which is strong yet still feminine, clean with the correct length of muzzle & good underjaw, . I put her in my short list of bitches in the line up because of all the above however she could not match how well made the other 2 bitches were.

2nd- Merrett’s GRAFMAX TITANIA

14 1/2 Month Black/Rust who presents a lovely shape. She is in gleaming condition & handled superbly to bring out her qualities. She has a good neck that flows into her shoulder correctly, her top line is strong & clean, but she drops on croup which shows on the move although she moves true & at one with her handler. She has a tight front, good catlike feet & tight pasterns. Strong rear with good muscle tone & definition. Her head is good but she is slightly round in eye.

Yearling Bitch-

1st- McCall's & Murrary’s DIEGO’S DEBBIE HARRY

Stood alone but a bitch who I would still place first in some of the classes of bitches today. 20 Month Black/Rust who is solid & has good bone & substance just like her dam although more refined than her dam in style. Balanced angulation & a lovely clean neck which sits & goes into her shoulder smoothly. She is short & compact in body, with a good firm top line, slight skirt. Tight feet. Her head was one of the best of the day, which one would expect, another trait once again gifted from her dam. Her head is a blunt wedge & is strong but oh so pretty, super expression, level planes, neat ears & dark eye. When she moves, she is very free flowing on side profile & drives from the rear but could be cleaner in pastern coming towards.

Novice-

1st- Luther’s SUPETA’S ECHOES OF LOVE FOR LANGLORE

Graduate Bitch-

This was a tricky class to judge although only two bitches in it both had different things I liked or didn’t like. It was the easy side gait movement of 1 that edged me toward her.

1st- Wetherall’s KODAM PAINTED LADY

20 Months Black/Rust. A standard, compact bitch who is probably more over looked than she should be due to the fact that she has a shorter half tail, as it can detract from the eye but looking past that she is quite well made. Shows balance on the stand with good fore chest & depth to elbow & has a good rear angulation, with strong hocks standing & moving. Loved her clean long neck that flowed into her shoulder correctly. Strong top line, slightly higher on the wither but she has the neck to counteract that. Tight catlike feet & strong pasterns. Handled & moved well to win her the class.

2nd- Merrett’s GRAFMAX TITANIA

Post Graduate-

1st- Thorn's GRAFMAX LUCY IN THE SKY

2-Year-Old Black/Rust who is very much the stamp of her dam.  Like her dam this bitch has great bone but still retains her elegance. She has clean lines although I think that more weight on her is needed as this loses her look of ’substance’ that she could carry off being a stronger bitch. It would help her to look more filled.  Angulation is ok both ends, handled to show balance to her. Love her head, it is a clean wedge shape with a dark almond eye. Long clean neck & a good firm top line. Tight catlike feet & she is short & strong in pastern. Moves well, holding herself on side profile.

2nd- Hopkinson's OTAGO MORE THAN A DREAM

23-Month-Old Black/Rust. This bitch has a lovely flowing shape to her with a good neck that flows correctly into her shoulder. Notes say ‘Sound & curvaceous in shape’ good lay of shoulder & plenty of rear angulation. Clean firm top line. Moved well holding herself. She has a nice head with good depth to muzzle, lips could be tighter & her eye could be better. Tight feet & good in pastern. Handled nicely.

Limit

1st- Bishop's KORIFEY OKSANA

2 1/2-Year-Old Black/Rust. This bitch has been slower maturing but has really come on & her handler brought the absolute best out in her to win the class over another nice bitch. Very much her dam in stamp & style. This bitch is clean & shapely. Topline is good & her angulation is balanced to present a pleasing picture. Stands on tight catlike feet, pasterns could be straighter. Head is a blunt wedge with good planes, lovely expression with the darkest of eye. Holds herself well on the move but would prefer more reach & drive. Another I considered further in the challenge for her overall qualities.

2nd- Brannan's & Mycroft’s SUPETA’S A WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE WITH SHARHYSTE JW

3-Year-Old Brown/Rust. This bitch scores in movement over 1 for this is where she excels, love her drive, power & the way she carries herself on the move however I preferred the shape & overall cleaness of one. 1 being more ‘my style’ on the stand however this bitch is a strong quality bitch who is a good dark brown. Angulation both ends is balanced, she has a firm top line, good tailset & croup. Another bitch who has fab bone & substance to her. Good head that is strong but head could be cleaner & ears neater. Handled to bring out her best.

Open

This was the hardest class of the day to judge. I could not decide between 1 & 2. Here stood two bitches that I admire for different reasons but when it come down to it, I preferred the substance & more compactness of 1, but two very nice females both worthy of being champions.

1st- Lainchbury’s ASLAIN TRYPITI JW ShCM

6-year-old Black/Rust. A bitch who I’ve always admired, she presents the shape & style that I love in a Dobermann bitch. Last time I judged her she was just a Junior, awarding her the RCC (I think her first one) good to see that she has gone on to fulfil that promise, I had her in my head for a possible CC if she came, but when it came to the challenge, she had to make way for the younger bitch who was tighter all over. Balance is the key factor with this bitch as she is exactly that. Excellent front, fore chest & depth to brisket, neck flows correctly into her shoulder. Lovely head with a dark expressive eye. Firm & clean in top line. Tight catlike feet & short strong pasterns. Good muscle tone & condition. Love her free-flowing action on the move, this is a bitch who can move with some go in her & the more she goes the better she gets. Still love her. RBCC

2nd- Jones’s CARA IZ ZOOSFERY JW (IMP RUS)

3-Year-old Black/Rust. When I first turned around to judge this class on first looking around, she stood out as my winner as she was standing holding herself correctly with balance & her neck flowing exactly how it should into her shoulder. As the class went on she started to bring her neck to far back into herself which ruins the picture & balance of her slightly. I would prefer her bigger all over which is where 1 scored over her however she is in super condition & I still like this bitch for many reasons, having watched her on a number of occasions I know she can be a challenge for her handler who actually makes her look ‘easy’

Probably my favourite head of the day, it is ‘my style’ being strong, long, clean & feminine, when I looked at her front on I thought WOW ! her front is true & more neatly tucked than 1 & she has the best feet with good pasterns. Balanced angulation, top line is clean & firm. Today she moved very well, at one with her handler but not quite the carriage on side profile of 1. A ‘class’ bitch.

Champion

1st- Morgan’s KORIFEY OPIUM

5-Year-Old Black/Rust. A bitch who is in the most superb condition, a credit to her owners. She is an honest bitch & on the stand presents a lovely shape & clean outline. Handled to bring out the absolute best of her. Angulation is good but more rear angulation would balance her out more. Front angulation & fore chest is decent & her elbows are tightly tucked. Moving I would like a bit more ‘go’ to her however she moves true coming & going & holds her top line well on side profile. She has a decent length of head with good planes & the darkest of eye but lacks some strength & underjaw. Tight feet but would prefer stronger pasterns but a bitch who is still pleasing on the eye.

Veteran

1st- Mycroft’s CH SUPETA’S SPELLS TROUBLE JW ShCM

Nearly 9-Year-old Black/Rust. I remember sharing the ring with this bitch as a baby, now she is coming up 9, where does time go! A bitch who is solid & square in outline, in superb condition & so good off for bone & substance another who could defiantly do what she was bred for. Feet & pasterns are fabulous for her age, so good to see. Strong, wedge head with dark almond eyes, excellent muzzle depth with strong underjaw. Good neck, decent shoulder and front assembly. Short coupled & a strong top line which held well on the move, when she moves her movement is balanced & true & she still holds herself as well as she always did. A credit to her owner. BVIS.

2nd -  Godfrey’s GRAFMAX NINETTE DE VALOIS

9-Year-Old Black/Rust another grand old lady who defies her age, in super condition. Once again well-handled from this handler. Another solid bitch who is square in outline, more elegant than 1 but not as neat & tidy as 1. Lovely neck which is long & clean & flows into her good lay of shoulder. Top line is clean but drops slightly on croup. Head is strong with good depth to muzzle; planes could be better. Moved well coming, going & around the ring on side profile.
